After fierce competition, the title of the “Most Pleasant Vineyard of Hungary 2014″ was finally awarded.

The jury of the magazine “Bor és Piac” (Wine and Market) assessed the condition of the vineyard, the cellar, the wine house, the wines and other presentations of the business, including communication, environmental protection efforts of the cellar and the “total impression” or “harmony” of the property, using a system of 100 award points.

This year Bock Cellar from Villány won the title of the “Most Pleasant Vineyard of Hungary”, followed by Vylyan from Kisharsány and Béresbirtok from Erőbénye.

The intensity of the competition can be illustrated by the fact that Vylyan and Béresbirtok, as well as the Abbey Cellar from Pannonhalma – which was also a very close contender – received the maximum number of points from 4-4 members of the jury.

Vylyan “The plantations are located on the spectacular slopes of the Villany Hills, including the winery on Black Hill (Fekete-hegy) in Kisharsany, lying in the heart of Dobogo vineyard. The founder, Pál Debreczeni, aimed to set up a trendsetting winery that would stand its own in international winemaking circles. Right from the beginning the main consideration, subordinating all other aspects, was that of quality, – from choosing the slopes for the vines to marketing the wines. We planted our first grapes in 1992 and our first wines were introduced to the market in 1997. Beside the special qualities of the soil, the hard, enthusiastic work of an open-minded professional team bore its fruits and today Vylyan is one of the most prominent vineyards of the Villany region.”
