Brief list of the programs:

Variety of genres: blues, jazz, rock’n’roll, classical music, folk music, stand up comedy and other concerts with light entertainment, parties, gypsy music, Hungarian dance house and Latin dance camp.

In 2015 visitors may raise their glass to toast in eight settlements of the Villány wine region. In addition, several programs will be available on the hillside of the region. In the early period of the year Villány will offer serious programs to tourists visiting the region.

In the morning visitors may taste – as part of the Barrel Vince (Hordós Vince) Program – wines still in the barrels, which have not been released for distribution. In the following, we may select from three Hillside Walks (Dűlőjáró Vince). Buses will transport interested parties to local settlements, where sumptuous breakfast, fine wines and many funny games will be available. In the evening – after the whole day walking – 9 cellars will offer diners as part of the Diner Vince (Vacsorázó Vince) Program.

Anybody who will meet winemakers from Villány on 24 January 2015 will enjoy an exciting and happy time – we can promise that.

The tradition of Saint Vince (Szent Vince) was initiated from Drávaszög, one of the settlements in the region. Owners on vineyards forecast the harvest from the weather on Vince Day and from the condition of cut vine shoots (“Vince vesszők”). Following the tradition, winemakers visited each-other’s cellars, tasted each-other’s wines and drank/sang to the success of the harvest.

On the Day of Márton, in wine-producing regions people eat goose dishes and sample this year’s wine.

In appreciation of this tradition, the IVth Day of Márton Wine Festival will be held between 7 and 9 of November in Hotel Danubius Budapest, with the participation of the Wine and Market Magazine. 55 winemakers from all over Hungary will exhibit their products on this event, which will be enhanced by gastronomical and cultural programs.

In many wine cellars of the Villány region tourist already have the opportunity to sample this year’s rose and Portuguiser. Sampling of this year’s wine is accompanied with various types of festivities, such as toasting the new wine, goose dishes, recall folk traditions, twilight march with lanterns and other exciting programs. In this region festivities related to the Day of Márton are continuing until the end of November.

Similar festivities are held all over Hungary. On the second weekend of November this year’s wine is sampled in every wine region of Hungary, go together with gastronomic programs. Do not hesitate to visit you favorite cellar.

The jury of the magazine “Bor és Piac” (Wine and Market) assessed the condition of the vineyard, the cellar, the wine house, the wines and other presentations of the business, including communication, environmental protection efforts of the cellar and the “total impression” or “harmony” of the property, using a system of 100 award points.

This year Bock Cellar from Villány won the title of the “Most Pleasant Vineyard of Hungary”, followed by Vylyan from Kisharsány and Béresbirtok from Erőbénye.

The intensity of the competition can be illustrated by the fact that Vylyan and Béresbirtok, as well as the Abbey Cellar from Pannonhalma – which was also a very close contender – received the maximum number of points from 4-4 members of the jury.

In this year’s festival, to be held on 3-5 October, the best wines of the region and unforgettable programs will be presented to interested parties.

During this three-day event every effort will be made to satisfy the demands of every age-group with introducing several surprises to be held in a more dynamic atmosphere.

In addition to various music productions, tradition-preserving presentations and the harvest march, cultural delicacies of other genres and sporting programs will also be available.
Needless to say, the best wines of the region will always be available for tasting.

On the first day of the Villány Rose Festival domestic entries were judged; awards were presented to the producers on Saturday, 19 July.

35 entries from 26 winemakers from 9 wine regions were tasted by the jury.

Over and above gold and silver medals, the Champion Award was granted to the best sparkling wine. Only really fine wines were entered into the contest; none of the entries was rejected.

During these few days hillsides of the Villány wine region will be populated by guests. This complex artistic festival has been held over seven years in four small villages in Baranya, in Nagyharsány, Kisharsány, Palkonya and Beremend, including the Vylyan-terrace in Kisharsány.

This festival is organized within the human scale, in human-friendly atmosphere, where you can hear only one type of music at a time, but all types are worthwhile to listen to.

This year more than 400 classical and pop music concerts, theater programs, exhibitions, a literature evening, a talkshow, circus and family programs will be offered to the guests.

In additional to the artists, a local history museum will open in Nagyharsány. Yoga classes will be held on the soccer ground, a market of local products will be organized in Palkonya, in the Malompark (Mill Park) and happy couples will be “re-married” in Mokos cellar. An artistic barrel and sign exhibition will be held again on Vylyan-terrace. Musical, puppet-designer and dancing workshops will be offered in Kisharsány.

In Beremend, on the meadow at the front of Kápolna (Chapel), Beethoven’s IX. Sympony will be played and in the church in Palkonya the Dohnányi- quartet (with Daniel Dinyés) will give a Mozart-Beethoven concert. The opera initiation series will be continued, this time with Offenbach. The festival’s guest of honor this year: the Katona József Theater.

They revived old traditions related to the Protector of Wines, Saint Vince in 2008, in the Vylyan vineyard. As a result, in 2014 several winemakers walk along the fantastic hills of the region, visiting the cellars and tasting wines.

According to the tradition, Harvest Days are always organized on the first weekend of October. The main attraction on Saturday is the “Harvest Parade” along Baross G. Street. Among others, horse riders, decorated coaches, wine orders, dance groups, bands and choirs will participate in the march.

Stages will be erected at several locations offering wide variety of programs. Pavilions of almost 20 winemakers located between the main square at the front of the Villány Municipal Building and the Cellar Lane will offer wine tasting. Needless to say, cellars along Cellar Lane will also be open to the public. Craftsmen from the region will erect stalls along the main street.
