Olaszrizling October
On 19 October, in the morning, three master courses will be held in the Gerbeaud House in Budapest, before the start of the wine-tasting walk – dedicated to this variety – at 4 PM. The President of the Austrian Wine Academy, Josef Schuller Master of Wine and Kielmayer Kristian AIWS will compare Austrian and Hungarian olaszrizling, followed by the presentation of Dr. Gabriella Mészáros AIWS, who will explore the various characters of olaszrizling-s, furmint-s and chenin blanc-s offered in the product range of Terra Hungarica. Finally, István Jásdi, one of the most significant winemakers of the Balatonfüred–Csopak region, will analyze the impact of various localities on wines, needless to say, on the variety of olaszrizling. Following the afternoon and evening wine-tasting walk, visitors can participate in a wine party, which will be held in the NU bistro, from 10 PM until the early hours of the next day.

Of course, this day will not be the only one of its kind in October, the wide range of this variety will be subject to intense scrutiny at several other occasions. In October wine merchants, restaurants and education institutions will offer wine tastings and wine-diners in 60 locations all over the country, where, of course, olaszrizling will be wine of the day.

Furthermore, daily specials and interesting packages will be available for people who are more interested in this exciting variety.

The vineyard enjoys the extraordinary micro-climate of the Mura River Valley. The first pinot-noir grape-vines were planted in 2007; before this time only and exclusively grapes for white wines were processed in the vineyard. Main grape varieties: Italian Riesling (olaszrizling), Rhine Riesling (rajnai rizling), Traminer (tramini) and Gray Friar (szurkebarat).

Later, following the years spent as wine dealer, he settled down on Saint George-mountain in 1999, and established a wine cellar.
From the beginning, wines are made here in eco-farming and without using chemicals. Since the first bottling, his wife draws the labels printed at home. Their wines ferment in metal tanks, and then maturing in old wattle and oak barrels during the winter, before bottling. They harvested grapes with ‘bio’ grade in 2003 for the first time. The total area of their plantations is roughly 20 hectare.

Note: In its intensive scent summer flowers and honey are mixing. When tasting, a mineral-full, rich sip characterizes it with a long aftertaste. The acidity, sourness is not too strong. It is a delicious wine.
