Hungarian winemakers were awarded 49 medals, among them 18 gold ones. So far this is the best result achieved by Hungary in the most prestigious international wine competition, the Challenge du Vin, held in Bordeaux.

4180 wines from 43 countries were judged in this wine competition, called the Olympics of Wines. Hungarian cellars nominated 128 wines.
The result of the assessment, completed on 4 and 5 of April, was announced on Friday on the homepage of the competition: Hungarian wines won 18 gold, 18 silver and 13 bronze medals.
Cellars from the region of Szekszárd won five gold medals, four medals were awarded to Eger, three for Villány-Siklós, two for Tokaj-hegyalja and one-one for Etyek-Buda, Pannonhalma, Nagy-Somló and Balatonboglár regions.
Price category of the assessed wines is also on display at the Bordeaux competition: most of the Hungarian wines with gold medal are in the category of Euro 12-20, but 8 out of the gold medal wines were above Euro 20. Three of the silver medal wines and five of the bronze medal wines were cheaper than Euro 5.
