Mondial Des Pinots 2012 This year Hungarian Pinot Noirs won two silver medals at the Mondial des Pinots. 1300 wines from 20 countries entered into the wine competition held in Switzerland. Two Pinot Noirs won silver medals,
the “2010 Pinot Noir” from the Etyek Kúria and the “2009 Pinot Noir” from the Vylyan Vineyard and Cellar at Kisharsány.
Members of the Pinot wine family, first of all Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc were presented in the competition held in Sierre, Switzerland.(http://www.pecsiborozo.hu)

Tokay Wine Order Day 2012.

Members of the “Vinum Regum Rex Vinorum” Wine Order of the Tokay Region established a new association on 30 May 2012, called the Tokay Wine Order. The meeting was held in the Saint Elizabeth House, where the Order was renewed, its operation was reorganized and the new Association was formed.

The objective of the Wine Order is to represent the entire region in a unified way in Hungary and in the world. Most founders of the Order are winemakers from Tokay. In the future any private person or legal entity who feels to be committed to the Tokay Region may join to the Order. (www.tokajiborlovagrend.hu)

Angelika Arvay won the JuniWine 2012 title

Photo:http://www.arvay.eu This year Junibor (Association of Young Winemakers) selected Edesem, a yellow muscatel from the late harvest of Angelika Arvay from Tokay as the best wine.

This year’s competition was organized jointly with the annual Picnic of Ujhegy on the first of September; thus visitors arriving to Etyek on Saturday afternoon had the opportunity to taste “letcho” (a Hungarian stew made of pepper and paprika) and wine in several local cellars before finding their way to the Junibor party.

Hungarian Aszu at the Olympics!

Royal Tokaji - Aszu 2007 Year 2007 five-butt Tokay Aszu, supplied by the Royal Tokay Winery, was served at the official opening ceremony of the London Olympics. Bibendum Wine, the official catering partner of the Olympics – which is also the representative of Tokay Winery in the UK – delivered approximately 500 bottles, which were served at the opening reception as the dessert wine accompanying strawberry sweets. VIP guests, who paid over one thousand pound for their tickets, were also offered the five-butt Tokay Aszu as the complimentary glass of wine.

Central-European Sommelier Championship 2012

The Hungarian Sommelier AssociationThe Hungarian Sommelier Association and the Wine Marketing Workshop Nonprofit Kft. from Sopron announces the first professional Central-European Sommelier Championship, 30 September – 1 October 2012.

Ildikó Káli, President of the Hungarian Sommelier Association, Ádám Klemens, Chief Secretary of the Hungarian Sommelier Association and Zsolt Rigler, managing director of the Wine Marketing Workshop Nonprofit Kft. will provide details of their cooperation at a press conference to be held with breakfast. They intend to spread the professional dialogue initiated by the Association a year ago beyond Hungary and to improve cooperation between sommelier associations of various countries.
The extended dialog will enhance and update professional knowledge of the member and will exchange practical secrets of the trade. Motto of the two-day championship: competition will help in development and in gaining more international routine.

Competitors from Central-European countries will be invited to the preliminary final of the Championship, to be held at Dunakiliti, in the heart of Szigetköz.
Official language of the preliminary final and the grand final, to be held on the following day, is English. Written tests and practical task, including moderation and all communication during the championship will be conducted in English. (http://www.sommelierhungary.hu)
